Leilani is a dancer, mover, and researcher of movement as a creative process. She is deeply curious about her own body and the bodies of others dancing, whether together or alone. She experiences dance as an act of presence and attention, receiving information from herself, others, and the environment. With this information, she plays, composes, creates, and feels great joy.
Her work focuses on the mechanics of bodies on Earth and how they affect us. When she comes into contact with others or with space, she allows herself to be equally affected. The dance space, filled with information, is her place to practice presence and attention.
In her classes, Leilani aims to open possibilities for practitioners and dancers to find their own organic, biological, and natural paths—the ones the body inherently possesses but we so often forget. She trusts in the beauty and natural organization of the body and seeks to honor its wise ways.
Her work world revolves around teaching classes, facilitating labs, performing, organizing CI events, and creating pieces. She has taught in several countries in Latin America, North America, and Europe, where she continues to research and collaborate with different groups of artists.
For 18 years, Leilani has been investigating the intersection between Contact Improvisation and Argentine Tango, two dances she deeply loves. In this research, she has learned a lot about space and compositional musicality in the body. She is fascinated by understanding the depths of these two techniques and seeing how they can meet and disagree during a creative and compositional process.
Leilani is also part of the organization of various events, working to create attentive containers where Contact Improvisation and the techniques that nourish it can be studied and practiced (ItalyContactFest, IMMERSIONES, Contact Improvisation festival).

Tango and Contact Improvisation are two forms of improvisation that have many points in common, but also different points of views. The one supports the other in a creative and technical process.
Technically we will work on the musicality, the axes and the steps as fundamentals for recognizing the Tango. The structure of the body as support, the relationship with the gravity and the awareness of the own center and the others, opening the spherical possibilities of movement as fundamentals from Contact Improvisation.
The creative process will look for its source in the highly sensual and poetic images from Tango and the less common but not less poetical images from Contact.
In the workshops we will create this dialog of play, music and images fully.
