A personal artful sculpture
Discover the possibilities and impertones of stone and the different techniques to edit stone into a personal artistic sculpture.
Sculpting in stone
In the sculpture course, you will be taught the basic skills of sculpture in a week’s time.
It is an art to connect the design to the nature of the material: working from the shape of the stone. Also, a proprietary designed shape can be imposed on the stone. Two different approaches that both lead to a personal artistic sculpture.
You will learn the possibilities and impedities of the material and the different techniques to work the stone, such as chopping, grating, filing and polishing. There are several types of stone present: alabaster, Chinese and Brazilian soapstone, serpentine and French limestone, in various colours and from soft to medium hard. It is also possible to bring a soft or medium-hard sculpture stone and edit it on the course.
The evening of arrival is one of getting acquainted with each other. A short introduction will be made about the course week. The first morning begins with an extensive introduction. The rest of the 1st course day you will receive an instruction lesson on the tools and techniques, you will find a stone and start the first research phase. In the following days, the program begins daily in silence with the sun saluting, a yoga cycle to wake up with (free participation). The sun saluting ends with a relaxing meditation. After breakfast follows a short creative warm up exercise with the group. Every morning and afternoon you can spend an average of three hours under supervision.
Outside of course hours, it is also possible to continue working independently. You are not obliged to make your own layout. The teacher will visit you to give directions and guide your visual process. Halfway through the week there is an afternoon off for your own interpretation. In between, work discussions take place, because you can learn a lot from each other. The week ends festively with an exhibition of the work made. The next morning after breakfast, everyone leaves home (or stays for another week).
